Magical winter wedding photos and video at Drumtochty

In the countryside between Dundee and Aberdeen, a stones throw from Stonehaven resides Luxury Scottish wedding venue, Drumtochty Castle. This Scottish castle wedding location boasts opulent suites and rooms (the aptly named gold room for example) that are the perfect situation for a party and good photographs and videos.

St. Palladius Chapel at Drumtochty Castle

St. Palladius Chapel is a fairy tale church on the grounds of Drumtochty. Offering a traditional religious wedding ceremony as well as modern humanist marriages. Drumtochty Castle is the perfect wedding venue for all, and a favourite venue of mine because of its flexibility. Most wedding venues are ideal for summer weddings, Drumtochty is perfect for winter weddings too where the beauty, comfort and warmth of the castle make this an ideal wedding idea.

On traveling the two minute drive from the Church back to the castle, there are incredible photograph opportunities on the grounds surrounding the Castle. This is where having an experienced Drumtochty Castle wedding photographer comes in useful. Because it was very cold we wanted to be quick capturing some photos and videos. While this was going on, my assistant was capturing candid moments of the guests in the castle, both photo and video. We walked down to the lochan for a few minutes and braved the January chill in the air before returning to the guests for hugs and laughter.

The bouncer of Drumtochty!

After catching up with friends and family - it’s time to eat! The magnificent ballroom hosts not only wedding ceremonies but the dinner and dancing. After capturing the speeches on photo and video, we leave you in peace. I wondered what the party looked like from outside.

Romantic wedding dinner at Drumtochty

After the dinner, Robin and Carol continued the party in the comfort of the gold room and the grand lobby. All the guests looked so happy and we couldn’t move for great candid photography all around us. Next up was the sparkler photograph. There is a knack to organising this and I’ve got really good at lighting all the sparklers at the same time, even if all the guests have been drinking all day!

Sparkler wedding exit

A more perfect winter wedding, I cannot imagine. I hope to guide those who are planning a wedding out of summer to get the best wedding photos, and so that your day can be as beautiful and fun as this one.

This is the short film that makes up part of our wedding photography and videography package. This short video is the most frequently watched as it requires the smallest time commitment. The next most viewed is the main event - the 10-20 minute highlight film. The full ceremony and speeches are the least frequently viewed as they are long events you need to plan to sit down and watch together.

The short video form is definitely my favourite to make also, I smile a lot during the process of creating a best bits montage. Please use the contact button to reach out to your Dundee wedding photographer that enjoys working at Drumtochty castle, very much!

Here are some of my favourite photos from their celebration.
