  • Choose Your Wedding Suppliers

The Fairmont, St. Andrews

Choose your Scotland Elopement Location

When it comes to choosing your elopement location in Scotland, the possibilities are endless. From historic castles to scenic beaches, Scotland offers a wide range of breathtaking settings for your dream elopement.

Scotlands Castles

If you're looking to elope to Scotland and dream of a fairytale-like atmosphere, consider getting married in one of Scotland's magnificent castles. Edinburgh Castle, Dunnottar Castle, and Eilean Donan Castle are just a few examples of the enchanting venues available.

Scotlands Natural Setting

For those who prefer a more natural setting, Scotland's landscapes offer plenty of options.

Imagine exchanging vows on a secluded beach, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Highlands, or saying your vows amidst the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders. These locations will truly take your breath away and create unforgettable memories.

To ensure you choose the perfect location, consider factors such as accessibility, the number of guests, and your personal preferences. Researching and visiting potential venues is also recommended to get a feel for the ambience and to envision your special day.

I understand that if you choose to elope to Scotland from the USA, it is a bit of a journey so you can always check out my recommended venues on the blog. Or, if you are really up for it, come and give us a visit to get a real feel for the country before your elopement!

No matter which location you choose, we have some of the best places to elope in Scotland for a truly magical experience.

Choose the Date/Time of Year to Elope in Scotland

When planning to elope to Scotland, choosing the right date and time of year is crucial.

Avoid the fringe festival and the St. Andrews open golf tournament

Prices sky rocket in Edinburgh and St. Andrews during the open golf tournament and also the Edinburgh fringe festival. Avoiding late June and early August is a safe way to avoid paying double to triple what you would at other times of the year on accomodation.

Scotland experiences a temperate maritime climate, meaning the weather can be quite changeable. However, each season offers its own unique charm and possibilities.

Spring (March-May)

Spring brings the awakening of nature, with blooming flowers and lush greenery.

This season is ideal for couples who want to incorporate the vibrant colours of the Scottish landscape into their ceremony. Imagine exchanging vows amidst bluebells or cherry blossoms.

Summer (June-August)

Summer is the peak tourist season in Scotland, with longer days and milder temperatures.

This is the perfect time for couples who dream of outdoor ceremonies, whether on a picturesque beach or in a scenic garden. The summer months offer plenty of opportunities to explore the landscapes and enjoy outdoor activities.

Autumn (September-November)

Autumn is a magical season in Scotland, with the changing colours of the leaves creating a romantic backdrop for your elopement.

The misty mornings and golden hues make for stunning photographs, and the quieter tourist season means you will have more privacy in popular locations.

Winter (December-February)

Winter can be a truly enchanting time to get married in Scotland. Imagine saying your vows against a backdrop of snow-covered mountains or inside a cosy castle with crackling fires.

Winter elopements offer a sense of intimacy and can be wonderfully atmospheric.

Ultimately, the best time to elope to Scotland depends on your personal preferences and the type of experience you're seeking. Consider factors such as weather, availability of venues, and your desired aesthetic when making your decision.

Whether you choose the vibrant colours of spring or the cosy charm of winter, Scotland will provide the ideal setting for your dream elopement.

Choose Activities to do During Your Elopement

Once you've chosen the perfect location and the date for your elopement, it's time to start planning the activities you can enjoy during your romantic getaway.

Scotland offers a plethora of options for couples looking to make the most of their time together.

Highland Hike

One of the best ways to immerse yourself in the Scottish culture is by exploring the country's landscapes. Take a romantic hike in the Highlands, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of rolling hills and lochs.

Outdoor Activities

If you're feeling adventurous, try your hand at some outdoor activities like kayaking, cycling, or even wildlife spotting. There is plenty to do and see!

Something Relaxed

For those looking to indulge in the finer things in life, Scotland is known for its whisky distilleries and world-class golf courses. Take a tour of a distillery and sample some of Scotland's finest single malts, or tee off at one of the famous courses such as St Andrews.

History and Culture

If history and culture are more your thing, Scotland's castles and museums will not disappoint. Explore the ancient ruins of Edinburgh Castle, discover the rich history of Stirling Castle, or visit the impressive Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.

No matter what activities you choose, if you choose to elope to Scotland there is something for everyone. Embrace the beauty of this enchanting country and create memories that will last a lifetime, whilst I capture it for you to re-live all over again!

Book Accommodation for Your Stay

Once you've chosen the perfect location and planned the details of your elopement, it's time to think about booking accommodation for your stay.

Luxury Castle Stay

For a truly enchanting experience, consider staying in a traditional Scottish castle. Many castles in Scotland have been converted into luxury hotels, offering a unique and unforgettable stay.

Imagine waking up in a grand four-poster bed and looking out over the Scottish landscape.

Boutique Hotel

If you prefer a more intimate setting, Scotland also offers a wide range of charming bed and breakfasts and boutique hotels. These accommodations provide a cosy and personal touch, allowing you to relax and enjoy each other's company in a tranquil environment.

Glamping and Cottage

For couples who want to immerse themselves in nature, there are also plenty of options for glamping or staying in a cosy cottage in the countryside. This allows you to fully experience the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland and have a private retreat for your elopement.

When booking your accommodation, consider factors such as proximity to your chosen location, amenities, and the level of privacy you desire.

No matter where you choose to stay, Scotland offers a range of options to suit every couple's taste and budget. So, take your time to find the perfect accommodation for when you elope to Scotland and make your stay unforgettable.

Choose Your Wedding Suppliers

Now that you've chosen the location, date, and activities for your elopement, it's time to think about the important Scotland wedding suppliers who will help bring your day to life.

From photographers to florists, Scotland has a plethora of talented professionals who specialise in creating magical elopements.

When it comes to choosing your suppliers, it's essential to do your research and find those who align with your vision and style. Start by browsing online directories and reading reviews from other couples who have got married in Scotland.

Look for suppliers who have experience working with elopements and have a portfolio that matches your aesthetic.

Photographer and Videographer

Photographers and videographers play a crucial role in capturing your special day, so take the time to find someone who resonates with your style and has a talent for storytelling through their images.

As a Scotland wedding videographer and photographer, I have an eye for detail and can capture the romance and intimacy of your elopement in every shot.

I know how to make the most of these breathtaking settings. I can assist you in posing (although I will capture your day as it unfolds with no interruptions for the majority of your elopement!) and capturing the perfect shots that truly reflect your love and the beauty that Scotland has to offer.

Having a combined photographer and videographer to capture your day is essential to capturing your story truly how it is for you to watch back on, as well as having a wedding album of images to pass down generations and share with loved ones.

Florist

Wedding florists like Anabella will take care of all your needs and desires with their knowledge and skill. Florists will deliver across the country as Scotland is like a very small American state in terms of size.

https://www.rainbowheartflowers.com

Florists can help create beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements that reflect the natural beauty of Scotland. Consider reaching out to local suppliers who are familiar with the region and can provide suggestions based on the season and your preferences.

Other Suppliers to Consider

Other important wedding suppliers to consider include hair and makeup artists, officiants, musicians, and caterers.

Make sure to communicate your preferences and expectations clearly with each supplier to ensure they can deliver exactly what you envision when you elope to Scotland.

Remember, the best wedding suppliers in Scotland can get booked up quickly, so start your search as early as possible to secure their services. With the right team of professionals by your side, your elopement will be an unforgettable and beautifully executed celebration of your love.

Legalities of Eloping from the USA to Scotland

If your dream is to elope to Scotland from the United States, it's important to understand the legalities involved. Getting married in Scotland as a US citizen requires some preparation, but it's certainly achievable.

Here's a quick guide on how to navigate the legalities of eloping to Scotland.

Firstly, you will need to ensure that your marriage is legally recognised in both Scotland and the United States. To do this, you will need to complete the necessary paperwork, including obtaining a marriage license. You can apply for a marriage licence in Scotland at the local registrar's office, but be aware that there may be specific requirements for US citizens, such as providing documentation of your identity and citizenship.

It's also essential to be aware of any residency requirements in Scotland. While there is no specific residency requirement for US citizens getting married in Scotland, it's recommended to arrive a few days in advance to complete the necessary paperwork and meet with the registrar.

Additionally, consider where you want to elope in Scotland and the specific requirements for each location. Some venues may have their own regulations or additional fees, so it is important to research and contact the venues in advance to understand their requirements.

Overall, this process will be an incredible experience, but it's crucial to familiarise yourself with the legalities involved. By following the necessary steps and ensuring that you have all the required documents, you will be well on your way to having a legally recognised and memorable wedding in Scotland.

Hybrid Photography & Videography for Weddings

Hybrid Photography Videography - what does the future hold for wedding photographers and videographers. Keeping up with the mobile phone!

The changing landscape of modern wedding photography

Alright, hold onto your bouquet because we're about to dive into the wild world of hybrid wedding photography and videography! These industries have seen more twists and turns than a bride trying to bustle her gown, thanks in part to the marvels of modern technology and the ubiquitous presence of mobile phones. So, grab your camera (or smartphone) and let's capture some memories, shall we?

Lights, Camera, Action... Literally: First up, let's talk about the rise of videography. It's been climbing the popularity charts faster than the groom's heart rate when he sees his bride walking down the aisle. Why? Because it's not just about pretty pictures anymore – it's about capturing the whole shebang, from the "I do's" to the dance floor shenanigans. Videographers have become the ultimate storytellers, weaving together visuals, sound, and movement to create cinematic masterpieces. Move over Spielberg, there's a new director in town!

Meanwhile, in the Land of Photography… On the flip side, traditional wedding photography seems to have hit a bit of a plateau. Sure, camera technology has gotten fancier than a five-tiered wedding cake, but the essence of wedding photography remains pretty much the same. It's like trying to reinvent the wheel – sure, you can add some sparkles, but it's still a wheel. This stagnation has left photographers scratching their heads, wondering how to stand out in a sea of snapshots.

Mobile Mayhem: Ah, yes, the dreaded mobile phone – friend or foe? While it's convenient for snapping selfies and documenting every meal you've ever eaten, it's also become a game-changer in the world of wedding photography. Suddenly, every guest is a potential paparazzo, armed with a smartphone more powerful than some professional cameras. It's a blessing and a curse, really. On one hand, you've got instant access to candid moments. On the other hand, Aunt Mildred's blurry, vertical video of the first dance isn't exactly Oscar-worthy.

Introducing... the Hybrid Hero: Enter the hybrid photographer and videographer, stage left! These folks are like the Swiss Army knives of the wedding world – they can do it all. Need stunning stills? Check. Craving captivating video? Double check. They're the ultimate one-stop-shop for couples who want the best of both worlds. Plus, they can navigate a crowded dance floor without tripping over a tripod – now that's talent!

In all seriousness though there is an enormous advantage to both the couple having a hybrid photo-video person or team, as well as the photographer. For the newlyweds they have less people getting in the way on the day. They have one person to deal with. There are no fall outs or issues with a photo shoot, then a video shoot. And of course, I offer a discount when having both photo & video. As for the photographers and videographers offering a combined package, it positions us very nicely as we are delivering not some, but all of the magic.

The Future Looks Bright: As we peer into the crystal ball (or should I say, the lens?), it's clear that the lines between photography and videography will continue to blur. Couples want a seamless blend of stills and motion, capturing every tear, laugh, and champagne toast in glorious Technicolor. And who can blame them? Choosing Your Ideal Venue: A Personal Journey

In the rich tapestry of Edinburgh's wedding venues, each location weaves a unique story. Consider your personal style, the size of your wedding party, and the ambiance that resonates with you and your partner. And when the time comes to capture these precious moments, entrust your memories to an Edinburgh wedding and elopement photographer who understands the distinctive charm of your chosen venue.

Remember, your wedding day is a celebration of your unique love story, and selecting the perfect venue is the first step toward crafting a day that reflects your individuality and shared dreams. I personally believe the first, and most important decision you will make - yes that’s right, more important than your search of wedding photographers Edinburgh - is your venue. Every other supplier and event on the day is affected by this choice.

While I have favourite things about each of these venues - there isn’t a best Edinburgh wedding venue. It is too specific to the couple, of which are all different. There is a best venue you for you and your guests, and your unique wedding.

Navigating Wedding Photography Costs in Scotland

Navigating Wedding Photography Costs in the UK: A Comprehensive Guide for Newly Engaged Couples. How much should you spend on a wedding photographer?

How much should my wedding cost?

Couple giggling at Balbirnie House wedding

Average UK wedding cost to couple: £32,000 (£30,000 in Scotland)

Average UK wedding photographer cost £1800

Stats booking 2024 -2026

If you google the average wedding cost it will give varied results from £18-30k. There are an approximate 29,000 weddings in Scotland each year and the latest Scottish government estimates are that the average Scottish wedding is worth £48,000 to the economy. This is a split between the couple paying for their wedding £24,000 -30,000 and the guests in attendance spending close to the same. That’s right, your 60- 120 guests spend almost as much as you did on the event, between attire, taxis, accommodation, child care, gifts and alcohol.

I imagine you have probably never hired a photographer, and if you have chances are they weren’t a wedding specialist. Why does it cost so much?

Understanding the Average Cost of a UK Wedding: Before diving into wedding photography expenses, it's essential to have a grasp of the average cost of a wedding in the UK. As of recent data, the average UK wedding cost is around £30,000. This figure encompasses various elements such as venue, catering, decor, attire, and, of course, photography.

It is important to note that I have been to amazing low budget weddings, and weddings that didn’t photograph as well that had vast budget. Budget actually has little to do with the human connection that is most important in your photographs.

How Much Should I Spend on Wedding Photography? The amount you allocate to wedding photography depends on your priorities and preferences. Generally, wedding photography costs can range from £1,000 to £3,000 or more, depending on factors like the photographer's experience, location, and package offerings. To determine your budget, consider what aspects of your wedding day are most important to you and allocate your funds accordingly.

I am not writing this blog so that you book me! I encourage those with a lower budget assigned to photography to try a student or a beginner that has some great images in their portfolio. The one thing I preach is don’t book someone crap!

Factors Affecting Wedding Photography Costs:

Photographer's Experience and Reputation: Established and highly regarded photographers often charge more for their expertise and quality of work. Location: Wedding photography prices can vary across regions in the UK, with London typically having higher rates compared to other areas. Package Inclusions: Wedding photography packages may include engagement sessions, additional photographers, or extended coverage hours. Understanding what each package offers helps in making an informed decision.

Most photographers will have 2-4 packages and offer add ons. I offer a base package that means I walk away from the wedding day knowing my couple will be delighted with the level of coverage. I do not include an engagement shoot so to keep the cost at its absolute lowest. It is important to realise that no small business is ever able to offer something for ‘free’. A free engagement shoot or album costs the business time or money, that will be factored in elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions by Engaged Couples: "How much is a wedding photographer in Scotland?" "What's the average cost of wedding photography in London?" "How much should I spend on wedding photography?" d. "What factors should I consider when budgeting for wedding photography?"

The average price for wedding photography is £1800 in the UK. Ask yourself if you want a good deal, someone who is priced to meet the national average or an above average photographer? You should not feel like your photographs will be poor at a cost of £1400. Likewise you should feel very excited when booking a photographer at £3000.

Tips for Optimizing Your Wedding Photography Budget:

Prioritize: Identify the most important aspects of your wedding day and allocate a significant portion of your budget accordingly.

Research: Compare the work and pricing of multiple photographers to find the best fit for your style and budget. I encourage finding work you like above pricetag.

Customization: Some photographers offer customizable packages, allowing you to tailor services to your specific needs. This is perfect if you are at the top of budget, and don’t need the engagement shoot or album.

Plan Ahead: Booking your photographer early can sometimes result in discounts, especially for off-peak dates. I don’t charge less for a wedding in winter as I will put in the same, often more work due to lighting considerations - however many do.

Can’t we just use phones?

Yes. But please don’t!

Asking a person to photograph an uncontrolled event with mixed lighting for 10 hours results in thousands of images. To find the best ones to present takes several hours. At this point the photographer should really edit the photos. Lower cost photographers can skip this phase altogether, and higher cost photographers can outsource this phase and pass on the price to the couple. There is no way to bypass the time involved in doing a proper job of someone’s wedding images. It takes a minimum of 20 hours up to 50 hours for a wedding gallery, depending on the skill of the photographer or the level of care.

Investing in professional wedding photography is a significant decision that requires thoughtful consideration. By understanding the average cost of a UK wedding and the factors influencing photography prices, you can make informed choices to create lasting memories of your special day. Remember to prioritize what matters most to you and tailor your budget accordingly for a seamless and memorable wedding experience.

What can be quite frustrating is all the leg work finding out how much each supplier costs. I believe in full transparency - saving you time and effort as you choose your dream team of wedding vendors.
