Photography and Videography at Falside Mill

Colourful smokebombs held by the bridesmaids and groomsmen at Falside Mill on a sunny day

Smokebombs really bring out sheer hilarity and unlock some really beautiful moments

I first met Libby & Conner at their friend’s wedding at Kinnettles castle. It was here they saw the two of us in action creating a recording the day in both photo and video. Providing photography and videography with just two people, but with videos and photos coming from both of them makes for a very effective system of both quantity and quality of reportage and creative shots.

Gorgeous, atmospheric light in the ceremony room

Getting ready in two different locations, twenty minutes from Falside Mill - Ben and I split up. I covered photo and video at bride prep and Ben covered photo and video with the guys. This is the superpower of having two hybrid photographer/videographers. It would cost nearly double to have two photographers and two videographers, as well as all the mucking about that comes with it!

Golden hour kisses at Falside Mill

After absolute carnage at bride prep, our relaxed and ready groom headed to Falside. Here Ben collected detail shots and set up the ceremony cameras and audio. I stayed as long as possible with Libby, as some of the nicest moments happen with mum and dad, the bride squad just before the ceremony.

The ceremony was breathtakingly beautiful. Gorgeous light flooded on our focal point of Libby and Conner. The wedding party were in hysterics thanks to the stand-up comedy of celebrant Darren Handy. I have been privileged enough to witness a number of Darren’s ceremonies now. He is nothing short of incredible at his craft, so much so, Libby’s dad interrupted the ceremony to stand in front of all and announce ‘isn’t he good’. A great example of when someone is doing exactly the right job.

Following on from the ceremony, the guests were led outside where a huge confetti tunnel was captured by ben and myself and the loitering drone. Big group photo from the sky and the ground, 15 minutes of hugs and then the formal group photos. I limit these to 10 important groups (more welcome after dinner). Suddenly we found ourselves in a wide open field in the blistering sun. This represents a photographic and video challenge. People don’t tend to look their best with hard shadows from direct, vertical sun. I thought for a moment, smoke bomb wedding photos were going to set this mad wedding party free. I instructed them to run around in a big circle, and absolutely beautiful photos and hilarious smoke bomb wedding video is the result!

Golden hour at the beach St. Andrews

Golden hour at the beach near St. Andrews

After dinner we headed to the beach. I couldn’t be happier with the photos and video we had collected already, but this took it to another level. Golden hour at the beach and in a barley field? I felt like this couldn’t have gone better. At the beach, Ben switched to covering all the video as I focused on still images. Our habit is to know what the other person is doing, and as a result Ben took a few photos with the wide lens he had, and I took a few videos with my telephoto so we had covered all bases - without ever saying a word to each other. I love what a slick team we are, perfect for photography and videography at Falside Mill.

If you are planning a Falside Mill wedding - I would love to hear your wedding ideas and talk about your photos and videos.
